Barcelona will host a new edition of the +RAIN Film Festival from 14 to 17 June, the international festival organised by Pompeu Fabra University and dedicated to cinema and artificial intelligence. This fourth edition reinforces its commitment to exploring new audiovisual languages and fostering critical reflection on the impact of generative technologies on film-making.

The festival’s cinematic programme will begin on 14 June at the Filmoteca de Catalunya with a screening of Dracula by acclaimed Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude. The film offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the myth, incorporating generative artificial intelligence while reflecting on the digital image and the limits of audiovisual representation.

The festival’s main cinematic event will take place on 15 June at the CCCB with FEST, its competitive section and the core of the festival’s film programme. Throughout the day, eight works selected from more than 200 international submissions will be screened, offering a broad overview of the current uses of AI in contemporary cinema. The programme includes titles such as ROOM174, Ping Pong, 09/05/1982, The Valley where LOAB Lives, Love Your Nails, Last May in Theatres, Archiva Qu(ia)r and L'UOMO PIÙ BELLO DEL MONDO. Following each screening block, audiences will have the opportunity to take part in discussions with the invited filmmakers and creators.

According to the organisers, the selected works explore the narrative, aesthetic and expressive possibilities of generative technologies while addressing issues related to memory, identity and the transformation of cinematic genres.

The film-focused strand of +RAIN will continue on 16 June with a range of activities centred on audiovisual creation processes. The WORKFLOWS section will bring together directors, artists and industry professionals to share practical case studies on the integration of AI into film production. Participants include director and visual artist Chino Moya, filmmaker Oriol Rigat and transmedia artist Diego Marchante.

In the afternoon, the programme will feature presentations by international filmmakers, as well as the presentation of Mutations My Word, the winning project of the Barcelona Crea – +RAIN 2025 Grant, an initiative that promotes research and artistic creation in the field of AI-generated cinema. The day will conclude with the +RAIN Film Festival 2026 Awards Ceremony.

In addition to the screenings, the festival will offer spaces for debate on emerging scenarios in audiovisual creation, curated viewing sessions and interdisciplinary encounters, consolidating +RAIN as one of Europe’s leading platforms for analysing the future of cinema in the age of artificial intelligence.
