[Call for papers] International Symposium "The Wall and the City: Visual Devices of Modernity", by the Tàpies Chair in Contemporary Art and Thought UPF-MTà (27-29.05.2026)
The International Symposium The Wall and the City: Visual Devices of Modernity will take place at the Museu Tàpies (Barcelona) on 27–29 May 2026. Conceptually linked to the exhibition Antoni Tàpies. El moviment perpetu del mur, the symposium invites critical reflections on the material and visual dispositifs—walls, façades, exhibition structures, graphic practices, and urban surfaces—that shaped modern perception and continue to inform contemporary exhibition-making, architecture, and design. Bringing Barcelona into dialogue with other European centres, the event features keynote lectures by Beatriz Colomina, Juan José Lahuerta, Jordana Mendelson and Federico Ferrari, among others. Researchers, artists, architects, designers, and curators are invited to submit proposals (max. 300 words) by 20 March 2026.
