L'Escrita

Perejaume

November 15th, 2024

In the last session of the Performing the lecture cycle, in collaboration with La Casa dels Clàssics, the poet and artist Perejaume reads the lecture L'Escrita, prepared specifically to be pronounced in the Water Tower Building of the Pompeu Fabra University, together with the voices of Neus Borrell and Arnau Obiols, and the recitation of Sílvia Bel and Sergi Castellà.

In the beginning of this lecture, the poet Perejaume, one of the most original creators of the contemporary arts, wonders how to deposit a text at the Library of the Water Tower of the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. The Escrita is a river in the Pyrenees, tributary of the Noguera Pallaresa, and its name is the occasion of a poetic reading that explores the writing of water, the impossibility of fixating its discourses, and the chance of flooding a space with the written and pronounced word. On June, 2022, during the X Alois M. Haas Lectures, L'Escrita premiered in this same library, as a creative result of the Javier & Marta Villavecchia fellowship granted to the poet in 2020. This new representation, organized in collaboration with La Casa dels Clàssics, is the conclusion of the Performing the lecture cycle, and consists in the reading of the poet, together with Sílvia Bel and Sergi Castellà, as well as with the voices of Neus Borrell and Arnau Obiols.

Perejaume

Sant Pol de Mar, 1957. Catalan artist and thinker with a dense, prolific, and original career that began in the 1970s. Educated in art history at the University of Barcelona, he uses a multiplicity of artistic media—painting, sculpture, video, performance, photography—and literary forms—essays, poetry—to explore the relationships between individuals and space—often the wooded and (close by) maritime surroundings near his workshop at can Basuny (Olzinelles)—, tensed by meta-scripural reflection on the boundaries between representation and reality. Leaning on both Catalan tradition and avant-garde experimentalism, Perejaume puts forward questions that lead to a critical reading of contemporary society, as evidenced in Pagèsiques (Edicions 62, 2011), Paraules locals (Tushita, 2015), Treure una marededéu a ballar (Galàxia Gutenberg, 2018), Fonts líquides i fonts lignificades (Tushita, 2020), and El sol i les fogueres (Tushita, 2022).
