Dancing Philosophy

Anthony Moore and Siegfried Zielinski

October 13th, 2024

The premiere of a new lecture-performance by the British experimental composer and musician, Anthony Moore, and the German media archaeologist, Siegfried Zielinski. Pioneers of the “expanded lecture”, Moore and Zielinski offer us an alternative vision of European philosophy beyond the centrality of text. In Dancing Philosophy, thinking takes shape as sound, rhythm, melody and image.

For two and a half millennia, philosophical and scientific thought in Europe has only been attributed to those who are able to express themselves in written or spoken language. Yet sound, noise, rhythm and melody are not arbitrary or accidental forms in the articulation of thought and ideas. The same can be said of the visual. Walter Benjamin's dialectical images or Sergei Eisenstein's montage of attractions are not epistemological marginalia, but strike at the heart of contemporary productions of meaning. In their “Expanded Lectures”, Moore & Zielinski explore the potential space of public presentations of complex knowledge structures through various media.
