The Centre for Aesthetics, Religion and Contemporary Culture and the Intercultural Spaces, Languages and Identities Research Group (GREILI), with the support of the Institute of Culture, are pleased to invite you to the activity “Las historias de la historia de Las mil y una noches. Un viaje entre lenguas y lenguajes”. The event will consist of a dialogue between Chirine El Ansary, an artist-researcher in residence at the university with a J&M Villavecchia fellowship, and Margarida Castells, a philologist and lecturer at the Universitat de Barcelona, and translator of Les mil i una nits (Karwán, 2021).

The conversation, moderated by Meritxell Joan Rodríguez (Universitat Pompeu Fabra), will explore the linguistic and cultural journeys that shape this complex work, which has been read in very different ways over the centuries. Castells and El Ansary will also discuss the factors that have influenced its circulation and analyse how the female characters of The Nights have been perceived in different parts of the world. The dialogue will be preceded by a performative reading in Arabic and Spanish by El Ansary.

Wednesday 22 April · 17:00–18:30

Room 20.017 (Jaume I Building)

The event is open to all; baklava will be served.
