About us
DIGITHS connects diverse disciplines and empowers the UPF research and teaching community, particularly those working in the Humanities and Social Sciences, to enhance their work through digital tools and methodologies. We aim to reimagine the role of these disciplines in today’s data-rich and technologically mediated world, encouraging dialogue between tradition and innovation.
By fostering interdisciplinary exchange, DIGITHS invites researchers and educators to creatively explore and critically reflect on social, historical, cultural, and artistic questions through digital lenses. To support this, we promote the integration of established research practices with computational, data-driven, and software-based approaches.
A New Space for Collaboration
As part of this mission, DIGITHS has launched a new collaboration with the UPF Library, resulting in a dedicated physical space made possible thanks to the Library team. This space, hosted at the Ciutadella Library, provides a new point of contact for engaging with digital methodologies and exploring the resources available at UPF.

If you're interested in a more tool-oriented or project-based view of digital humanities, we also recommend the Guia BibTIC on Digital Humanities. This guide provides a practical entry point to digital resources—but remember, this is just one part of what DIGITHS does. If you’re working on or are curious about other aspects of DH and digital research, we encourage you to get in touch with us.
What DIGITHS Does
Support for Digital Research Proposals
DIGITHS supports researchers and instructors preparing project proposals with a digital component, whether in research or innovation in teaching. We do so by offering guidance in areas such as:
- Mapping available technical support at the university
- Identifying how digital processes (quantitative or qualitative) can contribute to your work
- Advising on suitable formats and tools for your research
- Considering legal, ethical, and privacy issues related to digital content
- Helping draft realistic work plans, budgets, and timelines
A Hub for Digital Methodologies
DIGITHS also acts as a knowledge hub for digital methodologies at UPF. We bring together ongoing projects, research tools, literature, and training opportunities to support students and researchers who want to engage more deeply with computational or data-intensive methods.
Supporting Education in Digital Humanities
One of DIGITHS’s key goals is to support staff and students in integrating digital methods into both research and teaching. We also work toward building digital literacy among students in the socio-humanities, ensuring that undergraduate and postgraduate training includes meaningful engagement with digital and computational approaches.
