Mission

UPF-DH promotes a reassessment of the role of the Humanities and Social Sciences in the modern digital era. It gathers various interdisciplinary approaches to encourage creative research into social, historical and artistic expressions. To do so, the Centre will support the integration of conventional research methods with software-intensive techniques derived from computational science.

Goals

The goals UPF-DH pursues with its actions are:

A support provider

UPF-DH seeks to provide support for research project proposals (or proposals for innovation in training) with a strong digital component. It does so in a variety of ways:

  • assessing the availability of institutional technical support for the project.
  • determining which aspects of the research proposal lend themselves to quantitative and/or qualitative processes.
  • evaluating which digital formats may best suit the applicant(s)’s research agenda.
  • assessing intellectual property, privacy and ethical issues of the analogue/digital materials involved in the research proposal.
  • developing a work plan and budget with a realistic timeline for the project.

A hub for the Digital Humanities at the UPF

UPF-DH aspires to serve as an intellectual hub for exploring Digital Humanities theory and practices. UPF-DH aims to provide researchers across a range fields with access to the available technological resources at UPF.

To achieve this, it gathers ongoing Digital Humanities projects at UPF, along with valuable resources such as relevant literature, research software, and available training. These are intended for both students and researchers looking to enhance their understanding of digital and computational methods or tools for research.

Education in Digital Humanities

UPF-DH aims to assist UPF faculty members in understanding how digital methods and tools can enhance their research and teaching. Simultaneously, one of its primary objectives is to impart full digital literacy to humanities students. By doing so, it will play a vital role in both undergraduate and postgraduate students' education in digital and computational humanities.
