The Reprogenomics project continues to move forward

The project team has presented the first preliminary results from the focus groups to the advisory committee and has worked on designing the next phase: an online survey aimed at the general population, focused on understanding prenatal screening and access to Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing.

The project Reprogenomics: expectations and fears continues its development with a new advisory committee meeting, where the first preliminary results from the focus groups conducted as part of the study were presented.

These results highlight several key challenges in communicating genetics in the context of reproduction, particularly regarding the understanding of prenatal screening and tests such as Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT). Specifically, difficulties have been identified in interpreting risk, understanding the implications of results, and the variability in the information received from the healthcare system.

Based on these findings, the meeting focused on defining the next phase of the project: an online survey targeting the general population. This will include testing informational materials on prenatal screening and access to NIPT, to identify which ways of presenting information best support understanding and informed decision-making.

As next steps, the project team will design different prototypes of materials —based on text format— which will be validated through the survey. The project continues to move forward with the goal of contributing to clearer, more useful communication aligned with citizens’ needs in such a complex field as reprogenomics.
