Panel by the UPF History of Catalan Law team at the 5th Spanish-Portuguese Meeting of Legal Historians in Salamanca (July 2024)
It was a pleasure to present the young researchers of the History of Catalan Law team at UPF, David N. Irazábal and Karl Hoveyan, at the V Encuentro Hispano-Luso de Historiadores/as del Derecho held in Salamanca from 3 to 5 July 2024. Together with the postdoctoral researcher at the University of Santiago de Compostela Mónica Fernández Armesto, we have defended table 1 entitled "¿Litigar o concordar? Abanico de razones para resolver un dilema secular” (=Litigating or agreeing? A range of reasons to solve a secular dilemma"). My contribution has been "De las sentencias a la literatura jurídica: un 'work in progress' en la Cataluña moderna" (=From sentences to legal literature: a 'work in progress' in modern Catalonia), where I have developed that one of the virtues of litigation was that some jurisdictional decisions could become models for similar cases that would arise in the future. I have illustrated it with various examples of the legal books written by Catalan jurists between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries.
