An innovative model allows an equitable distribution of costs for disaster preparedness in the Caribbean

The researcher of the Business Analytics Research group Jessica Rodríguez-Pereira publishes an article entitle “A Cost-Sharing Mechanism for Multi-Country Partnership in Disaster Preparedness”. The main motivation of this research is to equitably allocate the necessary costs to operationalize a multi-country disaster preparedness network involving the joint prepositioning of emergency relief items.

Jessica Rodríguez-Pereira, postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Economics and Business at UPF and member of the Business Analytics Research Group (BARG), together with Burcu Balcik (Ozyegin University of Istanbul, Turkey) and Marie-Ève Rancourt and Gilbert Laporte ( HEC (Montreal, Canada), and in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), proposes a new cost-sharing mechanism for multi-country partnerships to better prepare and increase the capacity response in the face of increasing natural disasters in the Caribbean region as a result of climate change.
