28.03.2019

Jésica de Armas has visited the Management School of the University of Liverpool

She has spoken about An Intermodal Vehicle Routing Problem in Discontinuous Territories, which has receive many attention.

This work tackles a transportation problem as a real-world application of several companies in the Canary Islands, an outermost region of the European Union. Given the fact that Canary distribution companies have their warehouses on some islands and distribute goods to the others, the transport infrastructure has to ensure the mobility of goods necessary for social and economic development. The goal of this work is to solve an Intermodal Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows by using a combination of road and maritime means of transport. Due to the complexity of the problem we propose a metaheuristic method, so that we can obtain solutions to real-world large instances.

The Department of Operations & Supply Chain Management & Agility Research Centre has been very welcoming and new research topics have been established for future colaborations. Professor Tolga Bektas has been an excellent host there.
