AILA (Student Learning Agreements to Foster Participation in Defining and Evaluating the Responsible Use of Generative AI) is an Erasmus+ project (2025-1-ES01-KA220-HED-000352489) that engages students and educators in shaping responsible approaches to the use of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education. The project aligns Generative AI (GenAI) applications with course learning objectives while promoting ethical, transparent, and pedagogically meaningful practices.

AILA aims to:

  • Support teachers in co-designing learning agreements with students to address course rules and ethical considerations related to GenAI.
  • Guide educators in redesigning learning activities to integrate GenAI capabilities while mitigating potential risks.
  • Foster awareness, dialogue, and critical reflection on the responsible integration of GenAI in educational contexts.

The project adopts a human-centred AI approach through training activities and co-design sessions. Teachers and students collaborate to identify ethical challenges, develop learning agreements, and redesign course activities that integrate GenAI in alignment with learning objectives. These approaches are tested and refined in pilot courses across partner institutions.

AILA’s results will be disseminated through a comprehensive Toolkit that includes case studies, a white paper, research publications, and practical guidance for implementing the Learning Agreement approach in Higher Education.

The project’s main outcome is a co-designed protocol for addressing ethical issues and promoting appropriate educational uses of GenAI in Higher Education, using learning agreements as a model for student participation. Key outputs include:

  • case studies, a white paper, and research publications; and
  • a transferability toolkit featuring learning agreement guidelines, infographics on ethical and educational uses of GenAI, recommendations for public engagement, and materials for professional development workshops.
