2024

4-6th September - EUROYoung PhD School on Planetary Wellbeing 

The 1st EUROYoung (Mini)PhD School on Planetary Wellbeing will take place from 04 to 06 September 2024 at the Department of Economics and Business of Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, Spain. Please find more information about the school here.
 

15-16th April - Research Workshop: Colonialism and Gender in the Making of the Global Modernity (16th-18th Centuries)

The event was held at the Pompeu Fabra University with the participation of Sergio Escribano (Universidad del País Vasco), Beatriz Marín (University of Liverpool), Estela Rosselló (Universidad Nacional de México), Andrés Gutiérrez Usillos (Director del Museo de América, Madrid), Lisa Overholtzer (McGill University), Diana di Paolo Loren (Harvard University), Dawn Rutecki (Grand Valley State University), Irene Silverblatt (University of Duke) and Patricia Martins Marco (University of California, Los Angeles). 8th April - Chris Desai, founding father of EARTH® 2050, UOCEAN® 2050 & The Vayyu Foundation

Chris Desai envisions a future where conservation is no longer confined to the privileged few, but rather, is an inclusive effort that encompasses all walks of life. His pioneering charity, The Vayyu Foundation, aims to level the playing field by making conservation accessible to isolated and disadvantagedminorities and lower social class groups across the UK. Chris Desai's visionary projects, UOCEAN 2050 and UEARTH 2050, extend their community impact far and wide. Across 18 cities in the UK and 15 internationally, his initiatives are not only transforming the landscape of conservation and environmental awareness but also fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility.Through innovative strategies and initiatives, UOCEAN 2050 seeks to break down barriers and empower marginalized communities to actively participate in preserving the environment to stop river & ocean plastics with clean ups and river barriers. In this talk, Chris explained to us his incredible journey, hailing from humble beginnings, to becoming a global leader in sustainability and philanthropy. 28th November - Climate Fresk workshop: a Global Initiative for Climate Mitigation!

The Centre for Studies on Planetary Wellbeing at Pompeu Fabra University is gearing up to host a transformative event that aims to raise awareness about climate change in a unique and engaging manner. This workshop goes beyond conventional climate change discussions.
It's a creative mix of scientific insights and collaborative thinking, designed to make the complex issue of climate change accessible and intriguing. Drawing from the research of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), it explores the cause-and-effect relationships that drive climate imbalances. What sets it apart is its capacity to convey this complex information in a manner that is both enlightening and entertaining. Please find more information here.
 

29-30th September - (In)Corporate Sustainability Conference Vol.4

Following the public calls for action and the limited progress made at COP25 in Madrid on climate action, the scientific community, businesses and public authorities are all answering the call for action not only on the issue of climate emergency, but also on other issues connected with sustainability: from tackling pollution, resource scarcity and advancing the social aspects of sustainability. Awareness of the need for action and the limited time frame for enacting the proposed changes accelerated the developments in the field of sustainability from  the diverse market actors: businesses, public administrations and academia.This conference on sustainability aims to focus on the synergies that are to be created from combining the insights on sustainability challenges and solutions from different disciplines, answering the need for an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach for creating a systemic change towards sustainability. The current sustainability challenge demands cooperation, cross-sectoral knowledge and the cooperation of the private and public actors, and (In)Corporate Sustainability Conference seeks to provide a continuous yearly forum in Barcelona for that knowledge to be exchanged, thereby facilitating advancements in the joint goal of sustainability. Please find more information abou the conference here.
 

10th May - Promoting Postgraduate Education in Planetary Health in Europe

The Centre for Studies on Planetary Wellbeing at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and the Planetary Health Alliance European Hub co-organized a workshop to share and discuss recent developments in Postgraduate Education in Planetary Health in Europe. The main aim was to bring together various stakeholders from academic institutions in Europe to present their new developments in Planetary Health in Postgraduate Education. 2022

2nd June - The planetary well-being, axis of the I International Day Paco Fernández Buey

The academic meeting, which addressed planetary well-being from an interdisciplinary perspective, especially from the humanities, took place on June 2nd, throughout the day, in the Ciutadella Campus. The conference is intended to pay tribute to Francisco Fernández Buey, professor of Ethics and Moral Philosophy at the Humanities Department of the UPF and precursor to political ecology, who died ten years ago. 22-25th February - The Europaeum Winter School on Planetary Wellbeing

The 2022 Europaeum Winter School on Planetary Wellbeing took place from 22 to 25 February on the Ciutadella campus and at the MACBA, organized by the University, to discuss the role and impact of higher education institutions in the transition to sustainability. It will include a session on art and two open papers by two eminence in the field of sustainability: Will Steffen, Professor Emeritus at the National University of Australia, from which the concept of "planetary boundaries" arose, and John Elkington, founder de Volans and writer, creator of the "triple bottom line".
