Angela Y. Davis, Angela Y. Davis, north American political activist and emeritus professor of the University of California Santa Cruz, was invested doctor honoris causa by UPF on 9 March, in a ceremony presided over by UPF rector, Jaume Casals, which could be followed live on streaming.

The #MeToo movement, started in the United States to denounce situations of sexual assault or abuse of women, or the #onsónlesdones (#wherearethewomen) campaign, launched in Catalonia to denounce women’s invisibility in public opinion forums such as the media, are two of the most recent phenomena to underscore current gender problems.

Universities are no strangers to the inertias that drive society, both for good and evil, and they have a duty to combat this unfair situation. The gender perspective has come to stay at universities. Because an equal university will also be one that is better quality, more democratic and more radically committed to social transformation..

UPF is launching an ambitious international programme to generate and transmit new knowledge related to the notion of Planetary Wellbeing.

Over the last century, mankind has made great progress in improving wellbeing in society; but this has come at the cost of an exploitation of our natural resources at an unprecedented rate, and, in addition, has brought about unacceptable inequalities in terms of people’s health and standard of living.
