Students with special educational needs (UPF Inclusió programme)

Online teaching: recommendations and instructions in Aula Global for adaptations

  • Provide additional time for handing in work and tasks and activities to those students who require it.

  • Prioritize digital academic resources in preference to paper-based resources (notes, books, articles).

  • Choose audiovisual resources with subtitles or transcripts in preference to ones without, whenever possible

  • Set up tasks to be carried out individually or in small groups (maximum two or three people). As the tasks are in, a different format, their degree of exigency should also be adjusted to the number of people who are to work on it.

  • To the extent possible, we consider it may be useful to prepare a summary of the subject syllabus including the activities, reading and deadlines so that the students can organize themselves as much as possible and get ahead with their work, taking into account the Easter period. The Aula Global calendar can be a very handy tool.

  • In the case of some students having difficulty with digital tools, attempts should be made to avoid problems and simplify communication with the student, for example by sending the instructions for each activity by email (using a numerical sequence in the subject of the message can help to locate the instructions and the various activities of a subject).

  • Aula Global chat can also be very helpful for tutorials, for example.

With regard to students with visual impairments, digitization must be of the highest quality, especially if students have low vision. Documents in image format (for example, photographing a text) cannot be read by adaptive programs for blind people. Alternative text will also be required for images.

We provide new instructions regarding extra time for students with special needs. This procedure does not require duplicating tasks or questionnaire.
