I am a Serra Húnter associate professor at the Department of Translation and Language Sciences at UPF and I teach and do research on Catalan Sign Language (LSC). My doctoral thesis, defended in 2012, presents an analysis of the spatial locations, their relation to the meaning (indefiniteness and specificity), as well as the place they occupy in the grammar and discourse of LSC. In a nutshell, it proposes an analysis of LSC locations in terms of specificity marking and also related to discourse structure. After working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Université Paris 8-CNRS and doing postdoctoral research stays in Germany and France, I returned to the UPF with the position I currently occupy.

In general, my research interests are centered on sign languages, formal pragmatics, the semantic-pragmatic interface, discourse structure and referentiality. Lately I have worked on anaphoric chains realised by classifiers, pronouns and the use of the signing space; in indefinite pronouns and in impersonal constructions in LSC. I am also interested in the documentation of LSC and the study of the grammar applied to the interpretation of sign languages. I like combining elicitation and corpus linguistics with theoretical approaches. Research on sign language offers an amazing possibility to study the (non)similarities between the two language modalities, as well as to test the faculty of language across language modalities.
