About LSC-Lab

The LSC Lab (Catalan Sign Language Laboratory) is linked to the Centre of Studies LSC-UPF Actua of Catalan Sign Language and to the Department of Translation and Language Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University and is part of the Formal Linguistics Group (GLiF). We also have a stable collaboration with the Department of General Linguistics of the University of Barcelona and with the Universities of Göttingen and Hamburg.

The group features senior researchers, Deaf experts, postdoctoral researchers and predoctoral research fellows and master students. Together we carry out research financed through competitive projects and we focus on the study of a series of grammatical aspects of LSC, as shown on this website, and we present the results through publications and presentations at international and national conferences. With our work we intend that knowledge on sign languages receives the deserved attention of our linguistic colleagues but also of the general public.

We maintain close and regular collaborations with several research groups, especially in Europe, and in particular with groups from Amsterdam, Donostia-San Sebastián, Göttingen, Hamburg, Milan and Paris. Likewise, individually we have established collaborations with other departments and with institutions such as the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, the General Directorate of Language Policy of the Generalitat de Catalunya, as well as with FESOCA and other entities of deaf people such as the CNLSE. In addition, the teaching task of some of us in the Degrees of Translation and Interpretation and of Applied Languages and in the Master of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at UPF allows us to contribute the results of our research.
