This course will help you learn evidence-based learning strategies that you can use right away to boost your studies.
The course will also briefly introduce you to the science of learning – to improve your understanding of how learning happens in the brain so you can better understand how to plan your own learning.
The course material comes from two European projects (Illuminated, Illumine) involving educators and researchers from education, cognitive neuroscience, and education technology.
The learning strategies you will learn are very practical to use. They are simple to learn and do not take more time to use than what most students currently do.
Structure of the course:
The course involves three 2 hour in-person sessions (Poblenou Campus), and three asynchronous learning tasks:
Session 1: A Science of Learning Primer
1 March (Wed) from 3.00pm to 5.00pm at room 52.109, at the Poblenou campus
This session introduces three important evidence-based learning strategies and science of learning theory supporting the strategies (i.e. How learning happens in the brain).
Session 2: Exploring evidence-based learning strategies
8 March (Wed) from 3.00pm to 5.00pm at room 52.109, at the Poblenou campus
This session introduces additional learning strategies and prepares you for the one of the asynchronous tasks which involves testing out one or more of the strategies on your own.
Session 3: Sharing lessons learned from using evidence-based learning strategies
12 April (Wed) from 3.00pm to 5.00pm at room 52.109, at the Poblenou campus
This final session involves sharing experiences on the various strategies and generating tips on how to best make use of them.
Asynchronous tasks:
Online feedback/assessment of work will be offered until the end of April 2023.
