Learning methods to contribute to sustainable development: Problem and Project Based Learning and the SDGs

To contribute to the 2030 global education agenda, all educational levels, as well as university curricula, should incorporate the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the different areas of knowledge and investigate which are the most effective learning methods. so that students acquire the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that allow them to contribute to sustainable development. Along these lines, it is necessary to explore new learning models that move away from transmissive, disciplinary and exclusively cognitive teaching.

La UPF ha posat en marxa el disseny i aplicació d'entorns d'aprenentatge participatius, col·laboratius i reflexius com els que ofereixen l’Aprenentatge Basat en Problemes (ABP) o l’Aprenentatge Orientat en Projectes (AOP) per abordar els objectius de desenvolupament sostenible (ODS) a la docència i generar una xarxa de professorat que treballa de manera col·laborativa amb aquesta finalitat. Aquesta iniciativa s'ha coordinat amb CATESCO (abans UNESCOCAT-Centre UNESCO de Catalunya) qui impulsa aquest objectiu també per altres nivells educatius.

UPF has launched the design and application of participatory, collaborative and reflective learning environments such as those offered by Problem-Based Learning (PBL) or Project-Oriented Learning (PDO) to address the objectives of sustainable development (SDGs) in teaching and generate a network of teachers who work collaboratively for this purpose. This initiative has been coordinated with CATESCO (formerly UNESCOCAT-UNESCO Center of Catalonia) which also promotes this goal for other educational levels.

  • Presentation of the initiative and results: Mar Carrió, lecturer in the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences and Davinia Hernández-Leo, lecturer in the ICT Department at UPF (members of the UPF Innovation Network).
  • Witnesses and debate: Encarna Atienza and Marta Gonzàlez (professors of the Department of Translation and Language Sciences), Boris Bellalta (professor of the department of Engineering and Information and Communication Technologies), Andrea Noferini and Andreu Paneque (professors of the department of Political and Social Sciences).
  • Closing remarks by Eduard Vallory, coordinator of innovation projects at UPF and president of CATESCO (formerly UNESCOCAT) - UNESCO Center of Catalonia.
