The UPF Research Group on Empires, Metropolises, and Extra-European Societies (GRIMSE) and the Working Group of Comparative Slavery, the Afro-Latin American Research Institute at the Hutchins Center (Harvard University), call the International Conference The transnational networks of illegal slave trade in the nineteenth century. It will take place on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of May 2018 in the facilities of the UPF (Campus de la Ciutadella). The objective of the conference, the first one devoted exclusively to the analysis of the dynamics of the illegal trafficking of Africans enslaved towards the American continent, is to promote research in this field, bringing together academics from the United States, Latin America, Africa and Europe.
