Currently Professor of French Literature at Pompeu Fabra University, Cots also taught at the Autonomous University of Barcelona from 1973 to 1993, after graduating with the highest degree in French Philology from the University of Barcelona. Coming from the field of Romance Philology she studied under Martí de Riquer who supervised her doctoral thesis (Guillem de Cabestany: a historical study and critical edition), which was awarded a prize for excellence by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and was published in the Butlletí de la Reial Acadèmia de  Bones Lletres, Barcelona. Many of her publications include comparative studies adopting the approaches of Claudio Guillén and Jean Bessière. She has worked in the field of literary translation in various research groups directed by Francisco Lafarga, focusing on translation as a vehicle for relationships between literatures.

Her current lines of research are centred on the study of diversity in forms of humour and its discursive mechanism in a range of literary and socio-cultural contexts. She belongs to a Hispano-French research group directed by Dolores Vivero (Autonomous University of Madrid), working alongside Patrick Charaudeau and Catherine Kerbrat-Orecchioni, among others. In 2006 she was made a member of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques in recognition of her studies in French Literature.
