Shahani Singh speaks on Language Revitalisation in Nepal and at the UN
Shahani Singh recently served as a panellist at the Himalayan Future Forum 2026 held in her home country, Nepal. This forum brings together leaders, experts, institutions, and practitioners from across countries and sectors in the Himalayan region in South Asia to engage in dialogue in the Himalayan context. Shahani discussed the importance of integrating linguistic knowledge into revitalisation efforts for an endangered language such as Nepalbhasa (Kathmandu Newar). She also served as a panelist at an advisory meeting held in September 2025, with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, on the subject of a human rights-based approach to using AI to preserve and revitalise endangered languages. The advisory meeting was held in person in New York during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week.
