Contra el genocidi i contra la violació dels drets humans, a Gaza i arreu del món

Peace comes when you talk to the person you most hate. And that’s where the courage of a leader comes.

Desmond Tutu (1931-2021), first recipient of an honorary doctorate from UPF

These words, spoken by Desmond Tutu, the first person ever to be awarded an honorary doctorate by UPF, are more applicable today than ever. The UPF condemns, and will always condemn, the use of violence to settle disputes. At UPF, we advocate approaching political or territorial conflicts based on dialogue and respect for all peoples and minorities.

As a university, we also want to show our support to the academic community in countries at war. Universities and scientific institutions are more necessary than ever in these regions. Access to education and the promotion of critical thinking, in the context of strong independent institutions, are the way to ensure the informed debate and reflection that can open the door to new avenues for finding solutions.

At UPF, we are aware of the university community’s concern for the human rights violations we are seeing in the conflicts around us. That is why on this website you will find information about campaigns and actions related to current conflicts, as well as opinion pieces and institutional statements. We also offer a dedicated e-mail address – [email protected] – to contact the university and let us know about your interests and concerns.

The University’s institutional review, 360upf, whose fourth issue was recently published, has been distinguished with the 2nd Award granted by the European Association of Communication Professionals in Higher Education (EUPRIO).  The jury and the votes by the public recognized the innovative choice of a digital format, its user-friendliness and the good work in terms of its graphics and interactiveness. It also took into account the fact that the review, in its new format, reaches everyone more easily, especially the students, and that the production is carried out internally and therefore reduces costs compared with the previous version.

The innovative choice of digital format, its user-friendliness and the good work in terms of its graphics and interactiveness were all recognized. It also took into account the fact that its new format reaches everyone more easily, especially the students, and that the production is carried out internally and therefore reduces costs compared with the previous version.

The award ceremony took place on Tuesday 18 June at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (Poland), as part of the Association’s annual congress. Besides UPF, also recognized were the University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland) for the Science Festival it organizes, and the Art University of Helsinki (Finland) for a campaign publicizing an honoris causa investiture ceremony.

This is the second award received by 360upf after being recognized last October by the Association of Journalists of Catalonia with the 2018 prize for Innovation in Communication.

An innovative project

The review 360upf, available in three languages (Catalan, Spanish and English) published bi-annually, is a digital publication that takes the pulse of the activity of UPF in an innovative way.  With this step, the University seeks to play an important role in society and lead the new communication challenges in the field of higher education.

The structure of the information of the magazine is a far cry from traditional web navigation and shuns hierarchically organized content. On the contrary, all of the content is just a click away and it is the reader who discovers the different sections, as if leafing through a paper publication.

Several graphically different areas stimulate their reading, with the desire to provide them with their own personality. Thus, the sections can become independent parts and can be custom-distributed and segmented by audiences.

It has been shown that the new dynamics of content consumption lead especially younger people to get their information increasingly through digital media only. Based on this premise, the multimedia format of the magazine enables enriching content with videos, audio files, photo galleries and other interactive elements. Moreover, the commitment helps reduce the ecological footprint of the University associated with production and distribution costs, while contributing to environmental sustainability.
