Rules
Purpose
The purpose of the Sant Jordi Awards is to foster the creativity of the members of the university community at UPF. To this end, awards are given for original works by members of the university community. Award-winning works may not be entered in any other competition.
Categories and amount
The competition will include the following categories:
- Posters
- Literature
- Scientific communication
- Photography
- Blogs, social media and personal websites
- Audiovisual
- Musical composition
- Illustration and comics
- Journalistic reports
A maximum of one second place award may also be given in each category.
Eligibility requirements
The Sant Jordi Awards constitute a competitive call open to the following members of Pompeu Fabra University and all its affiliated institutions:
- Students who are currently enrolled
- Teaching and research staff (PDI)
- Administration and service staff (PAS)
The participants claim authorship of their work and undertake to refrain from submitting any audiovisual, phonographic, musical or image materials for which they do not have duly certified usage rights. Pompeu Fabra University will not be responsible for the improper use of intellectual property rights by the authors of the works.
Call
The rector is responsible for issuing the call. The call will be published on the UPF website and disseminated as widely as possible, to ensure competitive participation.
The deadline for submitting proposals and participation applications will be established in the call.
Procedure
Once the call has been issued, anyone interested in taking part may apply by submitting the registration forms available from the section of the UPF website specified in the call.
All works entered in the competition must be submitted in one of the digital formats specified in the call for each category.
In the registration form, participants must specify the pseudonym under which they would like to submit their work. The procedure will be overseen by the University Sustainability, Support and Commitment Service.
The procedure will be conducted in such a way as to ensure that the identity of the authors is not revealed.
The award winners will be chosen by the rector within a period of no more than three months from the submission deadline. The resolution issued thereby will include the names of the award winners and the amounts awarded, and will be published on the UPF website.
Communication with the award winners and participants will preferably be carried out via the e-mail address indicated in the registration form.
Jury and selection criteria
It will be up to a jury to assess and classify the works submitted as part of this competition. Accordingly, the jury will submit their proposal for the first and, where applicable, second place winners to the rector.
The jury will be comprised of members of the UPF university community’s three collectives –students, PDI and PAS–, who will be appointed by the rector at the request of the Sustainability, Support and Commitment Service.
The award winners will be selected based on the quality (50%) and originality of their work (50%). The decision will be made in accordance with the principles of competition, objectivity, equality, non-discrimination and author anonymity.
The jury reserves the right not to award a prize if they consider that the submitted works do not meet the minimum level of quality and/or originality.
Exhibition, reproduction and publication of the works
The intellectual property rights, as regards both moral and usage rights, to the award-winning works rest solely with the authors.
The award winners will grant Pompeu Fabra University a non-exclusive right to exhibit these works, both in hard copy and digital format, and reproduce them via the University’s media outlets in its own activities and on a not-for-profit basis. The copyright and author’s name will appear at all times. If the author wishes the work to be made public under a pseudonym, they must expressly indicate this desire.
The works submitted in the poster, photography (both individual and series) and comic categories will be exhibited in a virtual exhibition on the Sant Jordi Awards website.
All non-award-winning works will be destroyed within a period of one year from the date of the resolution of the awards.
Legal terms
Participation in this competition will constitute acceptance of these terms and conditions.
The jury will settle any issue not addressed in these terms and conditions.
The jury’s decisions are not subject to appeal.
Fiscal aspects of the awards
The awards are subject to the taxes set out in the tax legislation.
2023 call
The works presented at the awards will be attached in the digital formats collected in the specific bases of each award. The registration forms are hosted in the sections of the website of the specific bases for each award. In this form, candidates will state the pseudonym under which they apply.
Deadline for submission of works: until March 4, 2024, at 11.59 p.m.
Award ceremony
The prize-giving ceremony for the UPF's Sannt Jordi Competitions will take place on April.
Tractament de dades personals
The processing of the data of the participants in the prize will be done in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and for these purposes the following information is provided:

Purpose: management inherent in the condition of participants in cultural activities. Personal data will be kept for one year from the date of resolution of the awards.
Legitimation: your consent. It can be withdrawn at any time.
Recipients: your data will only be used by Pompeu Fabra University, and will not be transferred to third parties without your consent, except in the cases provided for by law.
Rights: access to data, rectification, deletion, request for portability, opposition to treatment and request for limitation by sending an email to [email protected] or by any of the means provided for in article 16.4 of the Law 39/2015. If you consider that your rights have not been properly taken care of, you can submit a claim to the UPF data protection representative via the address [email protected] or to the Catalan Data Protection Authority.
