This entry agreement will make the University the first Spanish institution to offer courses on this platform and one of the non-British pioneers. Since its inception fifteen months ago, FutureLearn has registered more than one million students from 190 different countries.

The main interest of FutureLearn is the integration of innovative storytelling tools applied to teaching and collaborative participation by students, as well as the use of the resources of the British Library and the BBC.

In this regard, Mireia Trenchs, vice-rector for Teaching and Academic Planning at UPF, stressed that "we are entering a pioneer platform in the use of narrative and social learning applied to education that will help us to increase the international reach of our courses". In addition, she commented that "UPF aims to provide innovative and quality MOOCs through the platform, which will also serve to collaborate with partner institutions to carry out joint projects".

Some of the online courses being prepared by the University for FutureLearn are Medicine, Film and Literature; A Brief History of European Integration; 3D Graphics for Web Programmers, and Innovation Ecosystems.

Besides UPF, other universities from around the world have also joined the platform, such as the University of Basel (Switzerland), the University of Bergen (Norway), Paris Diderot University (France), the University of Twente (Netherlands) and the University of Los Andes (Colombia).

FutureLearn was conceived to become the MOOC platform of reference in Europe, with a careful selection of its partner institutions, according to strict criteria of quality and international reach.
