The FutureLearn platform chooses the University to host its partners conference

With the aim of organizing its programme strategy. It will take place on 11 and 12 April, on the Poblenou campus. The event will include a debate featuring the lecturers Dolores Folch and Cristina Gelpí about their experiences in MOOCs.

The FutureLearn platform of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) has chosen Pompeu Fabra University to host its partners conference. On 11 and 12 April, from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm, and from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, respectively, forty of the platform’s partners will meet in the multipurpose hall of the Poblenou campus and other UPF areas to deal with the strategic lines of its programme.

The platform, created by the Open University in 2013, has 83 partners from around the world, some 3.5 million users who have been involved on a variety of courses offered by leading universities and specialized organizations mainly from the most prestigious universities and centres of the United Kingdom. FutureLearn enjoys the collaboration of the BBC, the British Council, the British Museum, the British Library, the team’s headquarters, among others. UPF joined in 2015.

The event programme  is highly varied and involves participatory formats in small groups with exhibition sessions that include some of the most notable experiences of its members.  Manel Jiménez, lecturer and researcher at the Department of Communication is coordinating the courses provided by the University on the FutureLearn platform and, early in the afternoon of Monday 11 April, in the multipurpose hall, he will give a presentation in which he will summarize the experience of this academic modality, MOOC, at UPF.

Dolors Folch, sinologist and emeritus professor of the Department of Humanities at UPF was a pioneer in UPF’s participation in FutureLearn with the MOOC “The European discovery of China” (September 2015), and more recently, her initiative has been continued, among others, by Cristina Gelpí, lecturer of the Department of Translation and Language Sciences at UPF, with the course “Talk to me with your hands and listen to me with your eyes: introduction to Catalan sign language” (April , 2016).  

These experiences will be examined during the discussion by the lecturers Dolors Folch and Cristina Gelpí, on 12 April, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, which will take place on the stage of the Tallers building on the Poblenou campus, in live TV interview format, at which they will present their experience with MOOCs via FutureLearn at UPF.

Finally, Jaume Casals, UPF rector, will close the conference at 4:15 pm on 12 April.
