Dr. Laura Pérez-Altable and Javier Díaz-Noci, members of the UPF DigiDoc group, have published a chapter in the final monograph of the News, Networks and Users in the Hybrid Media System. Transformation of News and Media Industry in the Post-Industrial Era (Newsnet) project. (2019-2022), RTI2018-095775-B-C43, in which they analyze aspects of media financing. This includes references to legal reforms on intellectual property legislation as a means of making large aggregators pay for news, the search for new sources of support for the media industry, such as subscriptions, and unequal access to quality news.

The chapter, titled “Financing the media: In search of reader (and Google) revenue models, and its impact in news consumption” is part of the joint volume of which Simón Peña and Koldo Meso are editors, entitled News in the hybrid media system. This volume, published by the University of the Basque Country, is free access.

Along with the contribution of Díaz-Noci and Pérez-Altable, chapters by other network researchers can be found, grouped by themes, such as “The transformation of the concept of news and the changes in the media industry”, “New formats and platforms for news content”, “Digital news and information disorders” and “The impact of news on pluralism and the quality of debates”.
