Researchers from the CINEMA Group of the Department of Communication at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra participated in the conference Cine e deporto. Clase, xénero e cuestión nacional, held on the 14th and 15th of September 2023 at the University of Santiago de Compostela, and co-organised by the Grupo de Estudos Audiovisuais of the same university and the FUCAV research project (Football and visual culture during francoism).

Margarita Ledo Andión, emeritus professor of Audiovisual Communication at the USC and coordinator of GEA, was in charge of opening the meeting on Thursday 14 at 10 am, and gave two days of lectures, debates and screenings in which participated the professor of Audiovisual Communication, José Luis Castro de Paz and the professor and researcher María Soliña Barreiro, also from the USC. Representing the Universitat Pompeu Fabra were Manuel Garin, Albert Elduque, Nuria Cancela and Laia Puig. Also taking part were the photographer and researcher Vito Vaquero and representatives of the publishing house Meninho Murió.
With funding from the Xunta de Galicia and the MICINN - Agencia Estatal de Investigación, the conference focused on the signifiers of gender, social class and national identity linked to the sporting imaginary, with special attention to the links between football and power structures in Spain. In addition to the academic presentations and a workshop focused on fragments of NO-DO, several transfer events took place, such as the collaborations with the Archivo Fotográfico Pacheco or the Galician-language publishing house Meninho Morreu. At the Cineclube in Compostela, Ariadna Cordal, member of the CINEMA group at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, presented the film Juguetes rotos (Manuel Summers, 1966) together with the collective Memoria e Cine, opening public debates.
