The academic journal Comparative Cinema has published its Issue No. 24, Echoes and Reverberations: Reflections on Film Trilogies, edited by Brunella Tedesco-Barlocco. The publication, from the CINEMA research group, explores the concept of the trilogy as an open and multifaceted form that, far from having a fixed definition, unfolds across narrative planning, critical groupings, and authorial exercises. The texts in the dossier examine specific cases of both commercial and auteur trilogies, showing how they can function as spaces for formal, thematic or autobiographical exploration, often in tension between coherence and variability. The importance of the critical gesture and the authorial desire in the constitution of some trilogies is highlighted, pointing out how their existence may stem as much from a creative decision as from an interpretative or analytical operation. Finally, the study of trilogies is presented as a means of thinking about cinema in relational and comparative terms, through the dialogue between works and their echoes, rather than from the unity of a single film.
