The congress "Challenging the Visual: Distrust, Emergency, Uncertainty. II International Conference Visual Motifs in the Public Sphere" will take place on March 13, 14 and 15, 2024 at Pompeu Fabra University. We call for experts in media studies, film, visual arts and researchers in social and political communication, with the aim of establishing core principles of the self-production system of images of power and the contemporary public sphere within the framework of the project MUTATIONS OF VISUAL MOTIFS IN THE PUBLIC SPHERE. REPRESENTATIONS OF POWER IN SPAIN 2017-2021: PANDEMIC, CLIMATE CHANGE, GENDER IDENTITIES AND RACIAL CONFLICTS (REF: PID2021-126930OB-I00).

In this context, we aim to bring together both empirical and well-founded theoretical approaches that contribute to developing a knowledge of the ways in which power and public space are staged, how their images are (re)interpreted by citizens and what are the mechanisms of appropriation and reinvention of iconographic sources.
