360upf, 10 issues of the Pompeu Fabra University magazine

min

The first issue of 360upf, Pompeu Fabra University’s new institutional magazine, hit the digital newsstands in October 2017, to report on the latest developments in UPF’s activity. It abandoned the hard-copy format of its predecessor, the magazine UPF.EDU, in favour of a more innovative one with the aim of becoming a tool for disseminating the university’s knowledge.

In the first issue, the one marking the change in format, we explained the five main reasons for the new magazine thusly:

  1. Because the multimedia format allows us to enrich the content with videos, audio archives, photo galleries and interactive features, amongst other things.

  1. Because abandoning the paper format helps reduce the university’s environmental footprint, associated with the production and distribution costs, and, thus, contributes to environmental sustainability.

  1. Because doing the magazine online eliminates borders and allows for a more personalized distribution, making it easier to reach more people all over the world and to cater to each reader’s interests.

  1. Because the new dynamics of content consumption, especially amongst young people, show that people are increasingly getting their news from native digital media. UPF will thus bridge the gap with its audiences.

  1. Because the university wants to play an important role in society and lead innovation in communication in the field of higher education.

Ten issues later, we have covered such varied subjects as the transdisciplinary model of responsible research and innovation, the Planetary Wellbeing concept, gender equality, Covid, culture, EDvolution or artificial intelligence.

We still have far to go and many topics to explore. The journal’s entire team is working issue after issue to narrow the gap between the university and society as much as possible, incorporating internal and, also, external viewpoints.

It is in this line of continuous improvement that we routinely ask readers for suggestions and proposals to make the publication as enjoyable as possible. You can send them to [email protected].

Knowledge transfer: a key strategic line for the coming years

Animation of magazine number 10 cover

Pompeu Fabra University is a public university. One of its main missions – in addition to promoting quality teaching and top-level research – is for the knowledge it generates to directly benefit society in order to boost our country’s competitiveness and enhance the population’s wellbeing.

To this end, through the creation of the brand new Office of the Vice-rector for Knowledge Transfer, the university is promoting a specific plan of measures to strengthen knowledge transfer to society. The measures are grouped into four main areas: valorizing research transfer; fostering entrepreneurship; connecting private- and public-sector players with the university; and promoting knowledge dissemination.
