Paper accepted SIGUL2024

Workshop:   SIGUL 2024 @ LREC-COLING 2024, the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Special Interest Group on Under-resourced Languages
Title of the paper:  A Novel Corpus for Automated Sexism Identification on Social Media in Turkish
Authors: Lütfiye Seda Mut Altın and Horacio Saggion

In this paper, we present a novel dataset for the study of automated sexism identification and categorization on social media in Turkish. For this purpose, we collected a set of Tweets and YouTube comments.

Relying on expert organizations in the area of gender equality, each text has been annotated based on a two-level labelling schema derived from previous research.

To the best of our knowledge,  this is the first two-level manually annotated comprehensive Turkish dataset for sexism identification. In order to fuel research in this relevant area, we also present the result of our benchmarking experiments along with an error analysis.

The SIGUL is a Special Interest Group on Under-resourced Languages set up by the ELRA Language Resources Association (ELRA) and the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) with the intent of focusing on the particular needs and requirements of under-resourced languages in terms of Language Resources and Technologies.

SIGUL 2024, the 3rd SIGUL Annual Meeting, will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of cutting-edge research in language processing for under-resourced languages by academic and industry researchers and, carrying on the tradition of the SLTU, CCURL, SLTU-CCURL and SIGUL Workshop Series (2008-2023), it will span the research interest areas of less-resourcedunder-resourcedendangeredminority and minoritized languages.

SIGUL 2024 will take place in Torino (IT) from 20 to 21 May 2024 as a Satellite Workshop of LREC-COLING 2024.
