SKINDEV
Imagine having access to a personalized, pain-free, and non-invasive gateway that enables you to monitor and manage your skin health right from the comfort of your home. SKINDEV, a European project, aims to make this vision a reality by leveraging the skin microbiome and engineering naturally adapted bacteria to develop next-generation probiotics. Our goal is to create "Smart Microbial Devices" capable of detecting relevant skin signals, such as immune responses or environmental factors, and producing a therapeutic treatment instantly.
To accomplish this objective, SKINDEV has set out to:
- Identify key biomarkers for skin diseases
- Develop genetic tools for live detection of these biomarkers
- Implement bacterial-produced therapeutics to treat skin diseases
- Validate and improve the technology using Human Skin 3D models through a design-build-test iteration cycle.
Through these efforts, SKINDEV is set to revolutionize skin health management by providing patients with a convenient, effective, and personalized solution for skin disease management.
In addition, SKINDEV has incorporated a widening partner is the University of Lisbon (CIENCIAS UL), Portugal that strengthens SKINDEV’s interdisciplinarity by providing two complementary disciplines: bioenergetics and metabolomics in addition to the reinforcement of the microbiology, microbiomics and biochemistry areas.
