I am currently a 'Beatriz Galindo' Senior Researcher in the Dept. of Translation and Language Sciences at the Pompeu Fabra University, where I teach courses on Language Acquisition and Research Methods for Language Studies. I am part of the ALLENCAM Research Group. My research focuses on Second Language Acquisition and Bi/Multilingualism from a formal linguistics perspective.

Previously, I was a Collaborator Professor at the Institute for Multilingualism, at UIC-Barcelona, and an Associate Professor at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. I received my Ph.D. and M.A. in Romance Linguistics and SLA at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

A note about my name and the accent marks: 'Sílvia' is the Catalan spelling of 'Silvia'. 'Perpiñán' is the Spanish spelling of my last name. 'Silvia Perpinan' would be the 'International' spelling. This is why you will find a mix and match options of spellings, choose your own!
