PhD Special Awards

The PhD Special Awards recognise the most outstanding doctoral theses defended within the PhD program in Engineering at UPF. These awards highlight research excellence, scientific quality, and the impact of the work developed within the university’s doctoral programmes.

Eligibility

Theses defended within September 1st, 2025 and July 31st, 2026 that have obtained an Excellent – Cum Laude.

 

Application period

Candidates may submit their application by email to [email protected] from September 1st, 2026 to September 30th, 2026.

Theses that have been defended within September 1st, 2025 and July 31st, 2026, that have obtained an Excellent – Cum Laude grade will be eligible for the award.

Authors of theses who meet the requirements may submit their application by email to [email protected] or through any of the means provided for in Article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of 1 October, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations, within the deadline established in the call for applications.

The application must be accompanied by a brief report on the thesis contributions and its impact in the field, signed by the thesis supervisor and by the author.

Applications will be assessed on the basis of:

  • Academic excellence of the doctoral thesis

  • Contributions to the relevant field of study

  • Social and/or industrial impact

  • Recognition of the thesis's academic and scientific impact

Applications will be evaluated by a five-member evaluation committee selected from the Academic Commission for Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies of the Department of Engineering (CAPID). The members of the committee must represent the different research areas of the Department of Engineering.

Committee members may not have served as supervisors or co-supervisors of any of the thesis authors applying for the award.
