Two researchers associated with the Multisensory Research Group (MRG) have been featured in La Vanguardia, highlighting the need for open, transparent science that serves society. The article spotlights Magdalena (Lena) Matyjek, cognitive neuropsychologist and Junior Leader Fellow of the “la Caixa” Foundation in our group, and PhD candidate Iria Nieto Rebollo, who is linked to the MRG through her doctoral work.

Lena focuses on understanding cognitive neuropsychology, particularly the lived experiences of autistic individuals, challenging stereotypes around empathy and social perception. She positions herself as an “ally to autistic people,” ensuring her research questions emerge from direct conversations with autistic individuals, families, and collaborators, while advocating for inclusive, adapted research environments.

Iria, now at the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL), emphasizes developing theoretical insights into language and bilingualism for innovative educational and therapeutic applications. Both researchers advocate bridging labs and society through greater transparency in sharing outcomes.

This vision aligns with MRG’s mission to study brain processing of sensory information in real-world contexts for improved quality of life and inclusion.
