JOSEP PICH I MITJANA (Manresa, 1967) is a Contemporary History graduate from the University of Barcelona (1991) and doctor from the Pompeu Fabra University (1999), with the doctoral thesis «Valentí Almirall i Llozer (1841-1904) i la gènesi del catalanisme polític», ran by Josep Termes i Ardèvol. Currently, he works as a Contemporary History teacher at the Pompeu Fabra University. Specialized in the movement for Catalan autonomy history, both its political and cultural aspect, he has been awarded equal first with the Joan Givanel i Mas de Ciències de la Comunicació de l'Institut d'Estudis Catalans 2001 award for the project Almirall i el Diari Català (1879-1881). The beginning of the political-ideological project about the progressive movement for Catalan autonomy and the XXI award Ferran Soldevilla of Fundació Congrés de Cultura Catalana in 2004 for the prokect Almirall i el federalisme intransigent. He has edited the memoirs of the lawyer, journalist and federal republicant leader from Barcelona, Conrad Roure (1841-1928) entitled Recuerdos de mi larga vida, 7 volumes, Vic, Eumo-IUHJVV, 1994-1999 and 2010, by Valentí Almirall, an Anthology of texts, with an introductory study, Barcelona, Generalitat-Institut d'Estudis Autonòmics, 2011, and is one of Antoni Saumell Soler's editors. His current research lines are: Spanish second half of the 19th century and beginning of 20th century political history (from the six democratic years to the Restoration); Catalan second half of the 19th century and first decade of 20th century political and cultural history; Federalism; Movement for Catalan autonomy; and Spanish imperialism in Morocco.
