Joaquim Albareda i Salvadó, a Modern History professor, has been the director of Institut Universitari d’Història Jaume Vicens Vives between 2007 and 2013. He has focused his research on the War of the Spanish Succession (1705-1714), from an international point of view as well as from the civil war that it entailed on the monarchy territories. He has also worked on the political history from the 18th century. He is the principal researcher in La política exterior de Felipe V y su repercusión en España (1713-1740) project and in Grup d'estudi de les institucions i de les cultures polítiques (S. XVI-XXI). He has published: La Guerra de Sucesión de España (1700-1714) (Crítica, 2010, 2012, 2014);  J. Albareda (ed.), El declive de la monarquía y del imperio español. Los tratados de Utrecht (1713-1714) (Crítica, 2015). He has coordinated the following collective works: Del patriotisme al catalanisme. Societat i política (segles XVI-XIX) (Eumo Editorial, 2001), Una relació difícil. Catalunya i l´Espanya moderna (Editorial Base, 2007) i J. Albareda (dir.), Catalunya, nació d'Europa, 3 volums (Enciclopèdia Catalana, 2013). Together with M. Janué i Miret, he has coordinated the volume El nacimiento y la construcción del Estado moderno. Homenaje a Jaume Vicens Vives (Publicacions de la Universitat de València, 2011). With M. Herrero, he has coordinated Political Representation in the Ancien Régime (Routledge, 2018).
