After completing her studies at the University of Belgrade, she studied at the Department for Romance Studies (University of Vienna), where she defended her PhD thesis on the nobility in the Cantar de Mio Cid in November 2018.

Her main field of research is Medieval Iberia: epic poetry and heroic matter in the High Middle Ages (in a broader Romance and European context) as well as royal and nobiliary representations in Latin, Romance, and more recently, Muslim historiography (12th-14th centuries).

Besides the monography Los potenciales polifónicos: la nobleza del Cantar de Mio Cid, published by Iberoamericana/ Vervuert in 2020, she has articles published in the Journal of Medieval Iberian Studies, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Anuario de Estudios Medievales, etc. Due to a methodological shift in her new project, Marija will train in Digital Humanities as a Visiting Medieval Fellow at Fordham University before applying and sharing those skills with the UPF field.
