Prof. Dr. José Iriarte

Prof. Dr. Jose Iriarte, an archaeologist and archaeobotanist, focuses on the study of human-environment systems in Latin America's Neotropics and subtropics, the peopling of the Americas, plant domestication, agricultural landscapes, and the rise of complex societies. He leads the ERC-funded project "The End of the Journey: The Late Pleistocene-Early Holocene Colonisation of South America" (2019-2024), exploring human colonization during significant climatic and environmental shifts that led to megafauna extinction and plant domestication.
