Catalan for Beginners (A1.1)
MOOC: Catalan for Beginners (nivell A1.1)
The Catalan for Beginners (A1.1) MOOC is a free online Catalan course open to everyone. It is designed for international students and anyone interested in the Catalan language and culture.
The course provides learners with the essential vocabulary and grammar needed to communicate in everyday situations. Throughout the course, participants are supported by instructors from Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), who guide them through the learning process.
Over the course of three weeks, participants build a solid foundation in Catalan while exploring key aspects of Catalan culture. Through a fictional series and its characters, learners are immersed in everyday life in Barcelona and discover different elements of Catalan culture, including its cuisine, music and traditions.
Learning a language is about much more than memorising words—it's a gateway to a new culture. That is why this course has been designed to make learning Catalan both engaging and enjoyable.
The Catalan for Beginners (A1.1) MOOC is the result of two years of collaborative work by the teams at Idiomes UPF and La Factoria, in collaboration with CLIK, all at Pompeu Fabra University. The project is supported by the INTERLINGUA programme (Grants for Catalan universities to promote the use of languages in higher education), funded by the Government of Catalonia through AGAUR. AGAUR also collaborates in the delivery of each edition of the MOOC throughout the academic year.
