In this policy paper, the author argues that Catalonia’s economic future and social wellbeing depend on the creation of “good jobs”, meaning stable and well-paid employment with guaranteed labour rights, decent working conditions, and opportunities for professional development.

The paper argues that these jobs not only benefit workers, but also generate positive effects on productivity, consumption, health, social cohesion, and innovation. The text criticises an economic model based on low wages and limited investment in human capital, and proposes three major lines of action: improving existing working conditions, promoting training and technology aimed at complementing human labour, and prioritising specific policies for vulnerable sectors and territories.

Finally, the paper calls for greater social recognition of “good employers”, namely business leaders committed to creating quality employment and exercising social responsibility.
