About

The COREM project "Collective Remembrance: Engaging Youth Through Curatorial Practices" aims to actively involve European children in the remembrance and education of 20th century genocides. Recognizing the crucial role of young people in shaping future narratives, the project places children at the centre of its activities. These events activate a complex network of collaborations between institutions, educators, and researchers. By re-envisioning our approaches to historical genocides, the initiative aims to rethink our modes of engagement with memories to prevent repetition, to foster recognition and to produce narratives of care and togetherness in times of emerging violence.

  • Spanning Poland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Armenia, and Spain - countries with complex histories of violence, each offering unique perspectives and educational challenges.
  • Fostering collaboration between history museums, genocide memorials, and leading scholars in youth, media, literature, and education studies. Aligned with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) Article 12, which ensures children’s voices are taken seriously.
  • Promoting intergenerational exchange between children and adult experts to generate new ideas and insights.
  • Developing an innovative digital toolkit for schoolteachers and educators to complement existing genocide education materials.
  • Disseminated at European and transnational levels to support educators in integrating complex historical topics into their curricula.
