Lourdes Monterrubio Ibáñez is a Ramón y Cajal Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Communication at Pompeu Fabra University. She previously was awarded a Marie-Sklodowska Curie Actions – Individual Fellowship with the project EDEF – Enunciative Devices of the European Francophone Essay Film that she developed at the Institut ACTE, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She holds a PhD in Comparative Studies and a degree in French Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid and completed the Diploma in Film Direction at the ECAM (Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid). She was also film critic for Cahiers du cinéma – España and Caimán Cuadernos de Cine.

Her research focuses on cinematic modernity and contemporary audiovisual creation, filmic writings of the self, literature-cinema relationships, female authorship and francophone production. She has published widely on epistolary cinema (Shangrila Ediciones 2018, Área Abierta 2019, Visual Studies 2020, Feminist Media Studies 2021, among others) and the essay film (Gedisa, 2019, Studies in Spanish & Latin American Cinemas 2019, Quarterly Review of Film and Video 2021, 2023, Studies in European Cinema 2022, Comparative Cinema 2022, Arte, Individuo y Sociedad, 2023, among others). She has also worked on audiovisual autofiction (Peter Lang 2018, New Review of Film and Television Studies 2021), contemporary cinema (Comunicación 2017, L'Atalante 2018), the film diary and the cinematic self-portrait (Arte, individuo y sociedad 2019, Comparative Cinema 2016).
