PhD Candidate

Berta Galofré Claret (Sant Vicenç dels Horts, 1999) is currently a predoctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, with a thesis dedicated to the aesthetics of Emmanuel Levinas. Specifically, she studies the relationship between poetic-literary expression and its musical dimension, as well as the way in which this affects the configuration of the ethics of the Lithuanian-French thinker. She holds a degree in Humanities (Pompeu Fabra University, 2017-2021) and a master's degree in Contemporary Thought and Classical Tradition (University of Barcelona, 2021-2023). She has been awarded different scholarships that have allowed her to carry out research stays and expand her studies (Collaboration Scholarship 2020, EURSS-EUTOPIA 2021, Segimon Serrallonga Scholarship 2023, JAE Intro 2024). Her main lines of research focus on the interrelation between aesthetics and ethics, phenomenology, art theory and literary theory, with special attention to the thought of authors such as Emmanuel Levinas, Maurice Blanchot, Georges Bataille, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Jacques Derrida, Hélène Cixous, Vladimir Jankélévitch, Simone Weil and Eduardo Chillida. She is also a member of the Centre for Ethics and Humanism at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
