The UPF–Barcelona Regional Chair on Metropolitan Futures is organized as a collaborative space that brings together academic, technical, and professional experts in urban and metropolitan planning. Its structure combines academic leadership from Pompeu Fabra University with the active participation of Barcelona Regional and is complemented by an Advisory Council that provides a strategic and plural perspective on global urban challenges.

Dr. Antoni Luna García

  • Associate Professor of Regional Geographic Analysis, Pompeu Fabra University (UPF)

  • A specialist in urban geography, landscape, and sustainability, he is responsible for the academic, scientific, and institutional coordination of the Chair.

The Barcelona Regional team contributes to the design and implementation of the Chair’s projects, drawing on its professional and technical expertise in urban planning, sustainability, and governance.

Advisory Council

The Advisory Council of the Chair is composed of experts in urban, territorial, and environmental issues from UPF, other universities, research centers, and public and private institutions in the region.

This consultative body advises the Chair’s leadership on:

  • Defining strategic lines of research and knowledge transfer.

  • Identifying challenges and opportunities for the Barcelona metropolis and other cities.

  • Building collaborations with networks of cities and international organizations devoted to sustainable development.

Governance Model

The Chair is structured across three levels:
