Athanasios Litsios

Athanasios Litsios, PhD (Molecular Systems Biology), is a Tenure-Track Professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences (MELIS). Before his current appointment, Athanasios was a postdoctoral fellow and research associate at the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research at the University of Toronto, where his research was funded by a Fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). He received his PhD from the University of Groningen as a Marie-Curie ITN Fellow.
Athanasios leads the Integrative Cell Biology research group at MELIS-UPF. His research focuses on gaining a quantitative understanding of how a eukaryotic cell functions as a system, with an emphasis on proteome and organelle homeostasis. His approach employs single-cell phenomics, which entails acquiring and analyzing multi-parametric phenotypic information from millions of live cells through the integration of high-throughput genetics, automated microscopy, and computational analysis.
