Presentation at the VII International Conference on Political Communication and Campaign Strategies: New parties and new scenarios in Europe and Latin America

22.09.2018

On September 22, the researcher Guillem Suau-Gomila gave a presentation in co-authorship with Dr. Carles Pont-Sorribes, entitled: "¿Se comunica la política en Twitter?: Análisis sobre la información política transmitida por los actores políticos españoles emergentes durante la campaña electoral de 2015". This presentation was given within the framework of the VII CongressNuevos Partidos y Nuevos Escenarios en Europa y América Latina, organized by the Latin American Association of Researchers in Electoral Campaigns (ALICE). The main conclusion reached by the authors is that Twitter is mainly used as a media of unidirectional communication aimed at self-promotion and against campaign, but not to the dissemination of political information.

This conclusion was shared by most of the presentations that were made in Table 1 of the congress: "Cyberdemocracy and citizenship" moderated by Dr. Ana Almansa. In this sense, the general conclusion was that politicians should improve their digital communication and encourage and participate more actively in the conversation with citizens to be able to really talk about cyberdemocracy and not just about online political marketing.
