On November 14, 2019, the approval of the granting of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Dr. Josep María Casasús, member of the Observatory of Scientific Communication of the Pompeu Fabra University, was published in the Official Gazette of the University of Girona.

The title of Doctor Honoris Causa was proposed by the Department of Philology and Communication of the University of Girona, as a distinction to the career of Doctor Casasús, as a prominent researcher, academic, journalist and writer.

Dr. Casasús is one of the most outstanding Catalan researchers in the areas of journalism and communication, around which he has published notable books and articles, among which is his founding work, Ideology and Media Analysis, from 1972. He has also received awards as an essayist, columnist, poet and cultural promoter. And he has been awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi, in 2011; and the Jaume Vicensa Vives distinction, in 2013, awarded for its quality as a teacher.
