"Fundamental Texts and Themes of Japanese Thought. Resources for an Intercultural Philosophy."

The principle objectives of the project are five: 1) To identify texts, themes, and technical terms from the various traditions of Japanese thought and trace their development in the modern era. 2) To apply this research to a clarification of the main resources and vocabulary needed for classroom teaching and for future research in the field. 3) To strengthen ties both among specialists and within the broader academic community of the Spanish-speaking world. 4) To further consoldiate the place of Japanese philosophy as an academic discipline. 5) To foster a new conception of the role philosophy from a wider cultural perspective that will embrace major Asian traditions like those of India, China, and Japan. This final and more ambitious goal has become all the more critical in our times, given the international engagements of our country and the increased impact of popular Japanese culture on today's youth. If the requisite  resources are prepared on a solid academic footing, they can be expected to shed important light on recent changes taking place in contemporary society.
